AHWAHNEE – Veteran school counselor Monika Moulin steps down from her seat on the Yosemite Unified School District Board of Trustees at the end of the year, it was announced this week. His current term ends in December 2022.
The Ahwahnee resident has served on the Oakhurst District Board of Directors since the unification of the former Yosemite High School District and his manger Coarsegold Elementary School District in the early 2000s. For most of this period, Moulin was a consultant and trainer for the California School Boards Association (CSBA), facilitating governance sessions and workshops for board members across the state. She plans to continue working in this capacity for CAPE in the future.
“It has been such a privilege to have served the children, families and schools of the Yosemite District,” Moulin said. “When the unification of the two districts was voted on in 2005, the voters chose two members of the former secondary school board, two members of the former primary school board and myself. From then on, I was honored to represent this community that I love in this special way. Of course, I will miss it, but it has enriched my life enormously, and I am so proud to have been part of such a great organization.
Moulin said his responsibilities leading trainings and workshops for the state association will allow him to pursue his passion for serving public education, but on a different level than serving on a local school board.
The areas in which she offers training sessions through the CSBA include community relations and advocacy, as well as political and judicial review, as well as facilitating individual school district workshops on good governance.
Before re-entering the arena of independent public relations consulting in 2003, Moulin held the position of vice-president of Edelman Public Relations Worldwidewhere she led teams managing campaigns for Netflix, Microsoft’s games division and Microsoft’s home productivity software.
During her professional career, she managed public relations and advertising campaigns for ITT Sheraton, the Tournament of Roses Associationthe Puerto Rico Tourism CompanyTicketmaster, Mazda Motor of America, Taco Bell, Hunt-Wesson, Oscar Mayerand the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Moulin trained in music at Southern Methodist Universitythe University of Texas and at the American Institute for Musical Studies in Freiburg, Germany. She obtained her master’s certificate in governance from the CSBA in 2007.
She is the music director of a local church and operates, with her husband Kirk, Yosemite Entertainmentthe region’s leading music service provider for weddings and other events in and around Yosemite National Park.
