Sarnia Community Foundation Appoints New Executive Director

Marc Guilbeault has been named the next Executive Director of the Sarnia Community Foundation.

Jane Anema is due to retire on March 31 after more than 13 years in the role.

“Marc brings a wealth of experience to this position, including community affairs, marketing and fundraising, as well as several years in the banking industry,” said foundation board chairman Bill Woods. in a press release.

“We recognized that Marc has cultivated many strong relationships with community and business partners.”

Guilbeault grew up in Sarnia and graduated from North Collegiate. He was director of community affairs for Bell Canada in London, studied at the Ivey School of Business, the Schulich Executive School of Business and the Canadian Securities Institute, and worked for the Bank of Montreal and as a as director of the Lambton College Foundation and Alumni Association.

“I am thrilled to join such a community-focused organization and look forward to working with our community partners and our board members,” Guilbeault said in the press release.

The foundation announced the retirement of Anema in November, as well as the formation of a committee to search for its next executive director.

Anema, originally from Winnipeg, spent 27 years as a teacher and worked in Sarnia at the prison where she supervised, trained and recruited volunteers while working part-time at the foundation post until it became a post full time a few years ago.

Since its inception in 1983, the foundation has supported more than 175 organizations and programs with grants totaling nearly $6 million.

“The foundation’s mission is to support charitable community causes by developing and managing funds that will make a difference forever,” Woods said.

“The past 13 years have seen massive growth in the foundation’s assets and we are well positioned to do great things for the community,” he said.
