ROCKLIN (CBS13) – Members of the Rocklin school board were called fanatics in a lively reunion after a vote gave them the final say on new after-school programs introduced in the district.

She calls the school board vote “shameful” and the board members “bigots.”
âI just felt like I had to get up and go talk,â she told CBS13.
She says she is angry with the motion that now gives council members the final say on all new electives taught in the district.
Only one council member voted “no”.
“It takes away the autonomy of the professional expertise of our educators,” he said at Wednesday’s meeting.
Each time a new class is introduced, it must be approved by a âprogram committeeâ.
From now on, it will be fully supervised by the board of directors.
Adrien, who is a parent of two minority children, is concerned the school board will not allow classes like ethnic studies, a class the district is piloting at Rocklin High School this fall.
“They are going to take away the hope that these students have to have access to the education they deserve,” said Adrien.
Other parents in the district say ethnic studies should be taught at home.

âTeach your children about race, kindness and love,â said a parent named LuAnn.
But she also says it should be up to the parents, and the students themselves, what choices they should make.
âDon’t take the choices away from children,â she said.
Rocklin Seniors CBS13 spoke okay.
âI just want our voices to be heard,â Ty said.
So why leave the approval of the elected members of the board of directors? In response to questions from CBS13, district leaders said, in part:
âThe board policy requiring board approval for new high school courses applies to all subjects and all possible courses, not to any particular course or topic. The proposed Ethnic Studies elective course, and any future electives, will be placed on the board meeting agendas to enable board members to serve their constituents and have oversight of governance of the board. new courses offered. The change will allow transparency, allow community members and staff time to review the proposed elective curriculum and have an opportunity to share their comments before board members vote on the course. proposed choice.
The email correspondence went on to say:
âMany school districts in California present proposed new high school courses to their boards for approval, which is consistent with the board’s role of governing the school district. The Rocklin Unified School District will continue to encourage creativity and innovation among faculty members by submitting new course proposals to Council for review and approval. This new change will increase transparency and communication about new courses offered in our high schools. “
For Adrien, she fears a hidden agenda and has a message for the board.
