For the fifth year in a year, DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS) has been named by policymakers the world’s leading consultancy for environmental, health and safety (EHS) services.
The survey by independent research house Verdantix gathered the views of more than 300 senior executives – three-quarters of whom work in companies over $ 1 billion – to gauge their views on the capabilities of consultants active in the field of environment, health and safety.
The environment, health and safety market covers all strategic services up to operational services related to ensuring that the company’s strategies and operations are in line with environmental objectives and maintaining the employee health and safety. Both segments of the industry have exploded over the past two, with the Covid-19 pandemic and changing perceptions of the environment at the heart of the agenda.
Growing awareness of climate change and the need to act – Europe’s path to climate neutrality by 2050 alone is expected to cost € 28 trillion and require major transformation in the public and private sectors – have propelled sustainability to the top of the EU agenda most boards. Meanwhile, the Covid-19 pandemic instantly made health and safety the world’s number one concern for any CEO.
To navigate these two developments, companies are backed by consultants of all sizes and shapes – the roughly $ 20 billion industry for environmental, health and safety consulting services is served by hundreds of most important players, and in the thousands of shops operating in all corners of the globe.
The Verdantix survey aimed to identify the best consulting providers in the world, asking executives a basic question: Which company has the strongest capabilities in the market? The result is hardly surprising: the main global players continue to dominate (17 of the top 20 players identified this year were also is part of the 2019 ranking), and once again the top prize went to DuPont Sustainable Solutions.
At the top of the prestigious ranking for the fifth consecutive year, DuPont Sustainable Solutions is a global provider of operations management consulting services. The company was once a unit of chemicals giant DuPont, but a spin-off from its parent company in September 2019 (backed by private equity) to pursue an independent strategy.
Over the past two years, the firm has reaped the dividends of its independence – managing to increase its workforce during the pandemic, diversifying its portfolio to become an operations transformation partner and consolidating its position as a leading environmental, health and security.
The latter has been fueled by a number of investments. In the sustainability segment, DuPont Sustainable Solutions added a number of new offerings and, earlier this year, strengthened its capabilities with the bolting of KKS Advisors, while in the health and safety segment, the company has deepened its portfolio with a range of technological offerings and solutions.
“At DuPont Sustainable Solutions, we’ve always been guided by the belief that helping our customers integrate EHS and operations management is essential to driving an enterprise-wide transformation that will enable them to successfully protect their employees, improve their operations and create a sustainable future, ”said Davide Vassallo, CEO of DuPont Sustainable Solutions.
“We are grateful to have been recognized as the best consultancy in environment, health and safety for five consecutive remarkable years”, added the manager of Italian origin.
According to the Verdantix survey, nearly forty percent of executives rate DuPont Sustainable Solutions’ capabilities as leading or strong in the market. Number two on the list, Aecom, gets 26% for these categories, with WSP, Deloitte and Arcadis rounding out the top five.
Other consulting firms ranked in the top twenty are (in order of # 6 to # 20): Capgemini, Golder, Jacobs, Lloyd’s Register, ERM, Accenture, EY, Trinity Consultants, GHD, Dekra Insight, Langan , Clean Harbors, Stantec, Tetra Tech and Ramboll.
