Douglas County Board of Health Appoints Michael Hill as Executive Director of Public Health


The Douglas County Board of Health today appointed Michael Hill as the Executive Director of Public Health for the Douglas County Health Department. Mr. Hill’s start date is February 28.

A senior executive with nearly 30 years of expertise in local public health agencies leading major programs in California, Texas, Florida and Illinois, Hill was named at the Health Council meeting on 10 February, following an extensive national search run by executive recruiters, resulting in 40 applicants, four interviewees and Mr. Hill as the finalist.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Hill served as director of the health agency for the San Luis Obispo County Health Agency, leading a public health department, a behavioral health department, an animal services division and the office of the public guardian, with a budget of 120 million dollars, more than 800 employees, serving 280,000 inhabitants.

His nearly 30 years of experience includes both managing existing public health agencies and being responsible for starting a new public health agency.

Mr. Hill holds a Masters in Public Health from the University of South Florida, a Masters in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Northern Michigan University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Board Certified in Health Administration, and a National Commission for Health Education Credentialing Certified Health Education Specialist.
