The global consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal has strengthened its team in London with three new leaders: Alfredo Bello, Alex Barclay, John Lawson.
Appointed Managing Director and co-head of Alvarez & Marsal’s banking restructuring offer in Europe, Alfredo Bello brings to the firm more than three decades of experience in more than two dozen countries.
During his career, Bello led dozens of large-scale banking restructuring and crisis management projects, including supporting the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and banking authorities around the world in the management of crisis situations. banking. Its engagements span bottom-up financial, operational and strategic restructuring of individual banks as well as top-down support to policymakers and regulators facing broader financial sector challenges.
Bello’s recent engagements include assisting the Ukrainian banking authorities in planning and executing the nationalization of PrivatBank, participating in the IMF team that reviewed the Spanish banking system at the height of the crisis, helping to the creation of the Slovenian national bad bank, and supporting the Bulgarian authorities in managing the collapse of KTB, the country’s fourth largest bank.
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, Bello worked twelve years at AlixPartners (and Zolfo Cooper), most recently as Head of Struggling Financial Services. Earlier in his career he worked for Arthur Andersen and Bain & Company.

Barclay was previously Strategic Design Principal at the Boston Consulting Group and Head of the Rapid Breakthrough Unit at Big Radical (a London-based product design firm). Previously, he worked at Accenture Interactive, Havas and OgilvyOne.

Lawson brings over 25 years of experience to the firm. He comes from BAE Systems where he served as Global Chief Information Officer. Previously, he held the position of Global Chief Information Officer at GKN’s Automotive Division. Previously, Lawson worked as a consultant at PwC, Deloitte and Infosys.
