Alex Murdaugh’s Former Law Firm Says He “Lied And He Stole From Us”

Murdaugh, a former South Carolina lawyer, was shot in the head on a pavement on September 4, but survived. The 53-year-old later admitted to authorities that he conspired with Curtis Smith, 61, a former client, to kill him as part of a suicidal fraud scheme so that his only surviving son could collect payment $ 10 million life insurance.

Murdaugh has since been charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and filing a false police report.

The arrest comes about three months after Murdaugh called police to report that he had found his wife, Margaret, and youngest son, Paul, shot dead at their home in Islandton.

In its statement, Murdaugh’s law firm also addressed the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) criminal investigation into the February 2018 death of Gloria Satterfield, a housekeeper from the Murdaugh family, and the management of their estates.

Satterfield died in 2018 in what has been described as a “trip and fall accident” at the Murdaugh’s home, CNN previously reported.

The company said it is not representing Murdaugh in this case, but “has read media reports about the lawsuit and the settlement resulting from the death of Gloria Satterfield. If these reports are correct, we are dumbfounded by what s ‘has passed.”
